2014 was World Championship year. It was one of the important tournaments that many team aimed to get good result. After one year of trial & errors, many teams started to settle their lineup. In 2014, World Grand Prix top teams in preliminary round dropped to 12 teams. 20 teams in 2013 made the whole tournament suck, too many weak teams be honest. After 3 weeks preliminary round, top 5 plus Japan (host) played in final round by round-robin system. Post Match Commentary : In 2013, Japan tried a new tactics 'MB1' which only one middle blocker on court but with 4 wing spikers. As there were no good middle blocker after 2012. It had been used in 2013 World Grand Champion Cup but Montreux Cup used 2 middle blocker. #17 Kana Ōno (22yo, 1.8m), #4 Arisa Takada (27yo, 1.75m), #20 Mami Uchiseto (23yo, 1.7m) were newly selected in the team. #6 Yūko Sano (35yo, 1.59m), #2 Hitomi Nakamichi (29yo, 1.59m), #7 Mai Yamaguchi (31yo, 1.76m) also return. #17 & #7 were the only MB players until World Championship. MB1 tactics continue to be adopted. Korea legend #10 Kim Yeon-koung (25yo, 1.92m) was the top scored player in both side. 85 hits and 36 success. She got 37 points in 5 set game. #11 Park Jeong-ah (21yo, 1.85m) was new and got 21 points. Nippon 4 players got 2 digit scores. #1 Nagaoka Miyu (23yo, 1.79m) got 23 points with 65% (22/34), #14 Ebata Yukiko (25yo, 1.76m) got 22 points. #3 Kimura Saori (28yo, 1.85m) got 18 points. Korea attack rate was better than Japan but made 28 mistakes vs 23 mistakes in Japan side.
