Psalm 16 + You Won't Leave Me Here | Tsuri | The Gospel Album
You Won't Leave Me Here opens inside the experience David describes and the experience Mary lived — the cold the shadows the borrowed ground the grave clothes and the folded stone — and never leaves it until the resurrection arrives and changes everything. The opening verse sits in the honest tension of a person who feels the cold but hears something underneath it. Shadows talk loud but they can't talk You out of me. The darkness is real. The presence is more real. The still small voice singing through the dark is the same voice David hears at night and the same voice Mary hears in the garden — except Mary hears it say her name. The pre-chorus carries the psalm's confidence in the face of death. But You wrote on my bones I won't leave you alone. The inscription on the bones is the covenant promise — the boundary lines in pleasant places the inheritance that doesn't perish. What is written on the bones cannot be erased by what is carved on the stone. The chorus delivers the resurrection promise of verses 10-11 with the directness the passage demands. You won't let Your Holy One stay in the dust forever. You show the path of life pull my heart up out the terror. The path of life David describes is the path that runs through death and out the other side. Mary found it in a garden on a Sunday morning when the one she thought was the gardener said her name. Verse 2 makes the move the whole song has been building toward. They laid Him down in the quiet earth. Sealed that door like the story had been told. The stone. The seal. The finality that everyone assumed. And then — dawn ran in through a broken stone and every fear found out it didn't own my soul. The resurrection described as dawn running in. Light that couldn't be kept out. And if fear couldn't hold Him in the tomb it doesn't own the soul of anyone who belongs to Him. The bridge delivers the rest confidence of verse 9 and then the most honest line in the whole song. Even when I close my eyes I am not afraid to die. Because I know. The knowing is Psalm 16's whole posture. Not hoping. Not wishing. Knowing. The Holy One rose. And the God who kept that promise keeps every other promise too. The call and response carries the you will not abandon me of verse 10 as a communal declaration. You raised Him up you'll raise my life. The resurrection of Christ is the guarantee of the resurrection of everyone who belongs to Him. The outro closes where the psalm closes and where Mary's morning closes — not in the grave but in the presence. Just the start of the story. First breath of a glory I can't see. I'm leaning in to the sound of that morning. You won't leave you won't leave me here. In your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Mary leaned in to the sound of that morning and heard her name. The psalm she may have known became the encounter she could not have imagined. "Because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your Holy One see decay." — Psalm 16:10 BSB "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." — Psalm 16:11 BSB Find Us 👉 https://beacons.ai/rhythmandbible Shout Us A Coffee ☕ 👉 https://ko-fi.com/rhythmandbible
