Before you say there were no Chevelles in 1981, there were in Mexico, There were 3 models of the Malibu sold in 1981 in Mexico. They were the bottom of the line, Chevelle, the middle of the line, Malibu, and the top of the line Malibu Landau with a V8. You can see the factory emblems that say CHEVELLE on each quarter panel and on the dash. Under the hood is a 292 CID inline 6 mated to a 3 on the tree transmission. This car is as clean as they come. The silver paint is in decent condition. You can see from the pictures this is an original silver car and that it has no rust. The interior has had some work. The seats were done in a lighter blue than the door panels and the dash was covered as well. No matter how well you care for one of these Malibus, the dash will always crack. It has a factory heater but no factory air, as you might expect. The heater was an option in this year as well. Look at the trunk floor picture. It isn't getting any more solid than that. The electronic ignition might seem normal to you, but Mexico started using it much later than the US. Look at how clean the engine compartment is. It is hard to believe this car is 45 years old. The car is riding on its original steel wheels with its dog dish hub caps still in place. The culture in Mexico is more about leaving them stock, and therefore dependable, as a daily driver.
