Back in 2020, I secretly went on a scooter trip around Taiwan with some friends. My parents were NOT happy when they found out. I was probably one step away from getting kicked out of the house. But about a year later, after I finished editing that video and showed it to them, they suddenly said, Maybe we should do one ourselves. At the time I was in my first year of my master's degree, my younger brother had just finished his entrance exams, and somehow all five of us managed to clear our schedules for this trip. Originally we planned to spend 10 days riding around Taiwan. Everything was booked already, but then the April 3rd earthquake happened while we were in Hualien. At first nobody really thought much of it. We're Taiwanese, earthquakes happen all the time. We were literally joking around while the room was shaking. But then it just kept going. And going. And getting stronger. That's when we realized something wasn't right. I still remember that for a day or two afterwards, my heart was beating way faster than normal. In the end we never actually finished the full route we planned, but weirdly enough that's probably one of the reasons this trip became so memorable. It also gave us a pretty good excuse to do another one someday. Before this trip, I honestly never imagined I'd get the chance to ride around Taiwan with my whole family like this. Looking back now, I'm just really grateful that we did it. Hopefully 30 or 50 years from now, we'll still be sitting together watching this video and laughing at all the stupid things we did along the way. Oh, and if you're wondering why this video took so long to come out... Most of it was edited at night after classes and work, and I also spent a year studying in Spain in the middle of all this.
