The Interoceanic Railway derailed again on a section of track in Oaxaca where an accident last December left 14 people dead and more than 100 injured. The Mexican Navy confirmed that, this time, a freight train left the tracks, but no injuries were reported. Investigative journalist Alejandra Crail pointed out that the Federal Auditor's Office had warned since 2019 about technical deficiencies in that section due to its slopes, curves, and geographical conditions. She stated that the problems were known to the authorities and that the recent accidents demonstrate planning failures that were not addressed.
