Lynda Lyon Block was an Alabama death row inmate convicted in the 1993 fatal shooting of Opelika Police Sergeant Roger Motley during a confrontation in a Walmart parking lot. Alongside her partner, George Sibley, Block was living as a fugitive and adhering to anti-government sovereign citizen beliefs when the encounter turned deadly. Sergeant Motley, responding to a welfare concern about a child sitting in their vehicle, was shot and killed. Both Block and Sibley were convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. In 2002, Block became the first woman executed in Alabama in 45 years.
