I went to Sajasa Temple in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do for the first time in a year. Since appearing on Jo Hyun TV’s Hyusimjeong, the eyes and ears of the Buddhist community have been focused on Sajasa Temple and Hyangbong Monk. His statement that there is no soul and reincarnation turned the Buddhist community upside down, and people from all over the country came to visit the small hermitage on the 380-meter-high rock where Hyangbong Monk lives alone. To commemorate the publication of “Love and Forgiveness,” we had a YouTube talk after a year. We talked about the fierce debates that have taken place over the past year. Hyangbong Monk’s claims about reincarnation and the soul theory were not recent. If you look at the book 'Love and Forgiveness' written by Hyangbong when he was 30 years old and the best-selling book of 600,000 copies sold 40 years ago, it contains interviews with Seongcheol, Hyanggok, Seoong, Uhwa, Gyeongbong, Gusan, and Tanheo in their late 20s. It shows Hyangbong, a young monk in his 20s, boldly asking the Zen masters of the time about the theories of the soul and reincarnation. We talked in detail about the process from anecdotes when he met the Zen masters of the time to his conviction that the theories of the soul and reincarnation were not the orthodox theories of Buddha. ---------------------------- Jo Hyun TV Hyusimjeong Jo Hyun | Former Hankyoreh Shinmun religion specialist reporter, writer, meditator [email protected] What do you want to have?
