Step-By-Step Installation Tutorial for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Today, on this 2015 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to show you the Curt Class 3 2-Inch Receiver Hitch, part number C13172. All right, this is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on the vehicle. All you see basically is the receiver opening here. It has a nice rounded finish to it on the edge of the tubing. It also uses a 5/8 inch hitch pin. It has a ring on the bottom for your safety chain hooks. Now this does require an opening cut on the bottom of your bumper, but with this, this is all you see. Everything else is hidden behind the bumper. All the hardware and everything is included with it, and there's no drilling required to install. However, obviously you need some cutting for your bumper fascia. By itself, it's rated for 5,000 pounds and it can handle a tow weight of 750 pounds. Now when you add a weight distribution assembly to the hitch your weight capacity actually goes up to 6,000 pounds. The towing capacity stays at the same 750 pounds. You also want to double check with our owner's manual or your manufacturer to verify that your vehicle can pull these kinds of weights. All right, next we'll go ahead and give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of your receive opening, down to the ground will be about 12 and 3/4 inches. From the center of the cinch pin hole to the edge of your bumper will be about 5 inches. All right, now I'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. We'll go ahead and lower the exhaust. There are two bolts on the very bottom here on these brackets that you have to remove using a 13 millimeter socket. This is the passenger side. We'll have to do this on both sides of the vehicle if the vehicle. Now, our particular vehicle, it has this trim package for the exhaust. We need to get that out of the way as well. It's really hard to see. We've got this one out of the way for now. There are three fasteners using a 7 millimeter socket. It's one at the very top here. You can't really see it from underneath. You have to go by feel. There's two easy one's here and here. At this point it's a good idea to put a strap or something to support the exhaust or when you take off the other trim for exhaust then, we can use that to lower it. All right, the rods to hold the exhaust up are a little bit in the way, so you've got to work it back-and-forth to get it to come down. All right, now, this piece here is part of an interior panel back here. There's four screws you have to remove using a 8 millimeter socket. All right the exhaust we found a couple more screws, one on each side that we. have to remove. Use a 7 millimeter socket on this. Disconnect it from the bottom of the bumper cover here. These large tabs you've got to push up on and pull this back at the same time. I got mine already started. It just takes a certain amount of effort to push these up and push this away. All right, next, we need to go ahead and trim our fascia, right here. We go find the center, basically, we're measure about 3 and 1/2 inches over which is about from this edge of the tab here to this edge of the tab. Then, we need to go up about 3/4 inches. Starting to the edge of this tab here. Comes out to about this point right here. All right, we use 10 snips to make our cut, cut off inaudible 00:03:54 work as well. Then, we'll score across this line here and break it free. All right, next, we'll move on to our frame here. The wire harness we need to move out of the way. They're just some clips on the side, pop it loose and fasten to our bottom. Works best with a trim panel tool, but a flat screwdriver will work as well. Pop it loose. We're just going to push this back and out of the way for now. After the hitch is installed you'll take a few moments to go ahead and zip tie this and take up all the slack. That was our passenger side. We need to do the same thing on the driver side. Our next up on the passenger side, we're going to remove this plug. At this point we can go ahead and start to install the hitch. We need to install some hardware into the frame first. Our attachment points are going to be this square hole which will be an access hole to get the hardware inside as well. This oval hole and about 1/2 back this way, is another round hole here. We'll go ahead and start our hardware first here. We'll start our hardware in this order, 1, 2 and 3. This is hardware we're going
