Sonic the Hedgehog: Campaign Playthrough - Part 7

Game: Sonic the Hedgehog Released: November 14, 2006 (North America) Developer: Sonic Team Publisher: Sega Offline Players: 1-2 System Link: NA Online Players: NA Game Rating: E for Everyone Played on Xbox 360 I have been playing sonic since the beginning. Back then Sonic was the epitome of gaming and it was truly a masterpiece in its day. I have played most of the main stream sonic games Genesis, Gamegear, Dreamcast and Gamecube. I played the Xbox 360 Sonic Generations game and even recalled trying to play this long ago but gave up for some reason. I now remember why and I want to throw this in the dumpster. This is hands down the worst Sonic game I have ever played. The animations are not very good even for the time, game directions are lacking or are non existent, controls or either non-responsive or too responsive with no setting to tone them down and gameplay mechanics are a nightmare. There is nothing really wrong with the city play parts. Running around town and gathering information for the most part is pretty straight forward although boring and makes this feel like something other than a sonic game. Outside of town when jumping into the meat and bones of the game I am finding the gameplay mechanics are absolutely terrible. I found myself getting caught on rocks, walls and failing to transfer from one to terrain to another often. When sonic hits the ground from a water slide I find him to suddenly stop. This will occasionally cause sonic to fall in the water and then the game will have you replay that segment of the level. I had actually played this level once before but the capture was corrupted so I had to replay it which added to my frustration while playing this game. The switching to tails made the mechanics of the game feel even worse. I felt no real control over the character during flight. A quick light move of the joystick saw tails make major changes to his course . Both character exhibit this massive change in direction or speed even if you barely tap the joystick and it is very frustrating when trying to complete something in a timely manner. I am only into the 2nd level and I don't want to be playing this heap of garbage any longer but will do so for the channel. Sure there might be some update for the game that could possible improve some of the issues with the game but this is one of the reasons I stopped buying newer consoles. The tail end of the Xbox 360 era saw several games with massive game breaking bugs, some of them were never fixed. I decided to never buy another console and spend a ton of money on half made products that usually require a ton of micro transactions after the fact to make it enjoyable. I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anyone. Not even for younger kids. The town parts of the game will be overly boring and in some cases confusing and the actual gameplay is so broken kids will get bored quickly when they keep failing of no fault of their own. I can honestly say this is hands down, out of the 460+ games I have played on the xbox 360, one of the worst games I have played. The only enjoyment I got out of this game was the intro cutscene which had me thinking this was going to be a fun game to play. Very misleading
