A Coastal Walk in the Town of Dundalk (feat. Lord Limerick Embankment) - Diary of a Ditch Witch
This week I'm taking a look at the land which has been reclaimed from the sea in Dundalk, the historical embankment which was instrumental in this and the mysterious 'Lord Limerick' who commissioned it. Featuring also the local fever hospital, as compared to 'fever huts' during the famine in the 19th century. The area concerned stretches from the Soldier's Point almost out to Blackrock, Co. Louth and keeps houses and businesses on the Red Barns Road, the Point Road, Bay Estate, the Avenue Road, Cluan Enda and up as far as Seatown, above water, though it has been badly neglected since it was built.
