‘What America Needs to Do to Turn to God!’ Sermon in a Sentence: America needs to turn to the Lord. We need a revival; we need an awakening. But that starts when believers in this country return to the Scriptures, repent from Sin, Respect other Sinners, Reject Society’s Normalization of Sin, and respond to the Spirit of God! Intro: But how did we get here? As we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America, I’ve heard many say that we need to turn back to God and turn back to our founding. But I think there’s a strong argument to be made that while we were founded with Christian principles in mind, we weren’t necessarily founded on God’s Word as our central and only guide. For example, almost half of the Founding Fathers were atheists. Some were deists, and some were, in fact, Christian. But to say that this country was founded by Christians is not solely accurate. Christian principles from the Bible were taken and used as verbiage in the Declaration of Independence. Some words were written in good conscience but contradicted in action. Prayers were prayed at the continental congress as Duane just read. As we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of this great nation, may we also recognize that there is much we need to do to turn to the Lord. I do believe that the Lord allowed this nation to be formed because much ministry has been done and God has used America to help fulfill His plan that all may hear the Gospel according to Matthew 28. The United States of America has become one of the major Sending Agents for Christian missionaries across the world. The idea that the founding Fathers gave us that we can have the freedom to worship is still revolutionary. But America still suffers from a disease that entered the world way back in Genesis 3. People in this room are still suffering or affected by the same disease. The disease of sin. Please keep in mind as we have celebrated our Nation’s founding today that we are in no way insinuating and promoting the fact that America is God’s nation or that America is to be worshipped over our Lord. In no way is that our goal. Instead, our goal in this service today is to lift High the Name of Christ because one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Christ is Lord. Our goal is to realize that we still have some work to do for Christ in the greatest nation in the world! Today, by looking at God’s Word, I want to look at 5 things I believe we can do to turn ourselves back to God and, in doing so, turn our nation to God. To have a revival, an awakening that would last for generations to come until the Lord returns. I love this country and I’m so thankful for it. But I also understand that what we do today, the decisions we make, and the way we live for Christ right now will directly affect the nation my daughter will live in. Your kids will grow up and so forth. ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!’ Psalms 33:12 Question to Ask: While looking at Scripture as a whole, what does America need to do to turn to God? Truth #1: Return to the Scriptures. (Psalms 119:105, 2nd Timothy 3:16-17) Truth #2: Repent from Sin. (Acts 3:19, Ezekiel 18:30) Truth #3: Respect other Sinners. (Matthew 7:12, 1st John 4:7) Truth #4: Reject Society's Normalization of Sin. (Isaiah 5:20) Truth #5: Respond to The Spirit! (Galatians 5:25)
