Fly Fishing for Bluegill in Frigid Spring Water

Spring fly fishing for bluegill can be challenging when the water is still cold, but sometimes slowing down is all it takes. In this video, I head to the Los Angeles River to see if the bluegill are finally becoming active after a long stretch of cold weather. The bite started out painfully slow, and I honestly wasn't sure if I'd catch anything. After finding a small group of fish holding tight to cover, I slowed my presentation with a Squirmy Wormy and finally started connecting with some beautiful spring bluegill. If you enjoy fly fishing for bluegill, panfish, and other warm-water species, I hope this video gives you a few ideas for approaching cold spring conditions. Thanks for watching, and if you enjoy fly fishing for warmwater species, consider subscribing for more videos from the Los Angeles River and beyond.
