Hartley Bay, B.C. | Hartley Bay, C.-B.
On March 22, 2006, the Queen of the North ferry hit an underwater ridge off the West Coast of British Columbia and began sinking. The nearby community of Hartley Bay quickly mobilized, saving 99 of the ship's 101 passengers. Sadly, two passengers were never found. The sunken ship contained 220,000 litres of diesel and 23,000 litres of lubricating oil, which began leaking into the waters outside of Hartley Bay. We spoke to Hartley Bay Mayor Cameron Hill about the effects this shipwreck had on the city.
