Phonological awareness activities include manipulating sounds with rhyming, alliteration, syllables, onsets, rimes, and phonemes. Syllables Ask kids to find out the syllables with chin bumps method. (Ask kids to put hand under the chin and see how many times chin is coming down on saying the word slowly.) 2. Onset/rime Say the words, Show pictures and ask kids to say the word without onset (first consonant or group of consonants) or rime. (rest of the word) 3.
