90 ANS DE CRÉATIONS DE FRUITS ET DE ROSES, LA BELLE SAGA DES PÉPINIÈRES ET ROSERAIES GEORGES DELBARD
NewsJardinTV, the channel that shares its passion for plants, gardens, botany, nature, and gardening, invites you to discover the best varieties of apples, pears, and roses created since 1935 by the Delbard family. A program directed by Nicole Mioulane and presented by Patrick (original theme music: "Nature Chilienne" by Sebastian Bustos and Marie M). We are in Malicorne, a small village in the Allier region of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, where Georges Delbard was born on May 20, 1906. The family history is recounted by his grandson Arnaud, now at the head of the company founded by his grandfather 90 years ago... The son of farmers, Georges Delbard was a major figure in the gardening world during three-quarters of the twentieth century. Introduced to gardening by a priest uncle, he developed his passion by participating in agricultural competitions. He became known in 1947 for his book "Les Beaux Fruits de France," a unique compilation of the pomological knowledge of the time. The work enjoyed international success, allowing Georges Delbard to connect with conservatories around the world. They sent him grafts of their varieties. Using this plant heritage, he developed a fruit hybridization program that would yield results... 20 to 30 years later! At the same time, he introduced the famous apples 'Royal Gala', 'Golden', and 'Granny Smith' to the European market. Today, Arnaud and his colleagues manage this heritage and continue to enrich it (see the NewsJardinTV video on cherries: • CERISES, CRÉATION DE NOUVELLES VARIÉTÉS ET... In the 1950s, Georges Delbard witnessed the development of the ornamental garden and noted that the French greatly loved roses. He also launched a hybridization program, knowing that it only took 7 to 10 years to obtain a valuable rose variety. With his hybridizing partner André Charbert, in 1958 they created the exceptional variety 'Centenaire de Lourdes Rose' (Delge), which is now found in the genetic heritage of a large number of contemporary roses. The Georges Delbard nurseries achieved prestigious success, supplying more than 3 million fruit trees to Iran, creating an orchard of over 1,000 hectares. Then came the time for children. Georges, who supported him in the company's development. This was particularly the case with Henri Delbard, who developed the emerging concept of the "pleasure garden" in the 1980s. He emphasized a sensory universe where the subtle nuances of aromas and flavors were precisely expressed. He worked with the greatest chefs of the day, as well as oenologists, noses, and perfumers. This collaboration resulted in the sublimation of the senses, giving a new and exciting aura to fruits and roses. At the same time, this work helped highlight the importance of varietal improvement and new plant developments. They brought positive developments on both sensory and agronomic levels. The controlled hybridizations carried out by the nursery simply replaced the work of the bee by simply selecting the parents (whose qualities are known) instead of relying 100% on chance, as in nature. This sometimes led to the creation of real innovations, such as the roses of the painters championed by Henri Delbard, creating a meaningful collection. He also developed the series Souvenirs d’amour parfumés, whose flowers have the opulent shape and fragrance of old-fashioned roses, but in a wider range of colors, with good disease resistance and repeat blooms. The video naturally presents the most emblematic creations of the three Delbard generations, highlighting each one's particular qualities. We hope this report will interest you, provide you with a pleasant experience, and inspire you to discover the French plant creations presented to you.
