Hello Students, Hit-or-miss transform is an operation that detects a given configuration (or pattern) in a binary image, using the morphological erosion operator and a pair of disjoint structuring elements. Purpose: Detects specific patterns in binary images Components: Uses two disjoint structuring elements Output: Set of positions where the first structuring element fits and the second misses Application: Used in various morphological operations like erosion and dilation Image Representation: Images are viewed as subsets of Euclidean space or integer grid The Hit-or-Miss transformation is a fundamental operation in digital image morphological processing. It is designed to detect specific patterns or configurations within a binary image by utilizing two disjoint structuring elements. This transformation identifies pixels in the image wherein the first structuring element fits the foreground while the second misses the area completely, effectively allowing for the localization of particular shapes. Mathematically, the operation is expressed as: 𝐴 ⊛ 𝐵 = ( 𝐴 ⊖ 𝐵1) ∩ (𝐴𝑐 ⊖ 𝐵2) In this equation, A represents the input image, Ac represents the complement of Input Image A B1 is the structuring element that needs to be present, and B2 is the structuring element that should not match the corresponding region. The result is a binary image indicating where the desired configuration is located within the input image. This transformation serves as the basis for more complex morphological operations, including thinning and pruning, which are vital for image analysis tasks such as feature extraction and shape recognition.
