Welcome to Chinag Rai and A&A Travelling. Chiang Rai is the northernmost major city in Thailand, with a population of about 200,000 people located in Mueang Chiang Rai district. The city is one hour drive from the borders of Laos and Myanmar and two hours drive north of Chiang Mai. Founded in 1262 as part of the King Lanna Kingdom ( modern day northern Thailand), Chiang Rai was the first capital of King Meng Rai`s principality and today is a perfect destination for travellers looking to slow down the pace, escape the nature, and soak up the charms of Thailands northern city. HOW TO GET TO CHIANG RAI The most popular places to visit Chiang Rai from is Bangkok and Chiang Mai. From Chiang Mai it`s easy to book a bus ticket online and it costs less than 7 euros. The journey takes a little over 3 hours. From Bangkok you can fly to Chiang Rai`s airport for around 30-50 euros and it only takes 1 hour. Or you can book a bus online for 20 euros but the journey will take 13 hours. GETTING AROUND IN CHIANG RAI Renting a moped here is convinient, cheap and definitely the best way to explore what the city has to offer. The roads are quite good and not so much traffic. The rental prize is around 200 Thb. WHAT TO DO IN CHIANG RAI -Chiang Rai Clocktower -Saturday Night Walking Street Market Opens every saturday from 04:30 PM to 00:30 AM, located on Thana Lai Road in the city center. This is the biggest night market we`ve seen outside Bangkok. -Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple) No entrance fee and it is open from 7 am to 8 am. -Wat Rong Khun ( White Temple) Entrance fee is 100 thb for foreigners, and it is open every day from 06:30 am to 06:00 pm. -Wat Huay Pla Kang ( Big Buddha of Chiang Rai) The temple is known for its enormus white statue of Guanyin ( 90 meters high), the Chineese Goddess of Mercy, a 9-floor pagoda and a Thai style Buddhist Temple. The temple is mix of Thai Lanna and Chinese styles. The temple is located eight km north of the center of Chiang Rai City. -Baan Dam Museum (Black House Museum) -Choui Fong Tea Plantation -Laongkwamsuk Park and Manorom Coffee This is a place we definitely recommend if you feel like having a coffe in a relaxing beautiful place by the river. -Toke-Tong Restaurant We loved to eat here, the food tasted good and the building has some kind of colonial architecture over it.
