A Town Called Tomorrow

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the people of the nation and pay respects to Elders past and present. A Town Called Tomorrow was filmed on location in Temora, Wagga Wagga and Ariah Park on Wiradjuri country 'Riverina' NSW in 2025. The soundscape called 'The Land' and was first recorded in 2020 on the Zoom MRS802 in Ashford, NSW with guitars and guitar effect pedals by Sam Sharman, drum tracks by The MRS 802. The music was completed in 2025 with the mixing of Clarients, Oud, Banjo and Pianos played by Nick Willoughby. Imagine yourself a high school art teacher arriving on a teaching contract each year sometimes a few terms every year to a different regional or rural town in NSW or QLD. Since 2017, the protagonist in this film has. Here 'A Town Called Tomorrow,' recalls the perception of an observer being the observed though not knowing who owns that role. A wholly present yet distant figure, a creative individual confronted with their own choices to become immersed in the landscape. The immersion of place, a most likely remedy for connection to the land and location. This working project will still surprise an experience of setting caution, though as is the nature of human curiosity the challenge of that unpredictability is exciting. If an artist wasn't outsider enough, best to go where 'artist' is a term not used often. This artwork 'A Town Called Tomorrow' is the visual narrative of an artist and art teacher on location experiencing one of those years. It captures the in-between moments, wandering through local sites gaining visual information and each time a revised re:imagining for his project 'Distance makes the Art grow fonder.' The experiences are memorable in many ways, they remain locked in time. Unlocked and recalled for inspiration, resilience and character building, where friendships developed from these experiences are cherished. For these are few, but they are integral to ones chances of comfort and reassurance. For the teacher, an understanding of how a variety of communities manage their day to day, are all in many ways to be respected and learnt from. ......................................................................................................................................................................... The soundscape 'The Land' was originally recorded in Ashford on Kamilaroi country in NSW, partly in a heritage community hall on a 1950's Tobacco Farm (Pintus family farm) surrounded by local historical memorabilia. Other recorded orchestrations were written in a teacher house while I was working a half year teaching contract in 2020 - Ashford, NSW. All guitars and guitar effects initially were singularly tracked one by one on a ZoomMRS802 8-14 Track portable mixing desk.
