Whether you're taping by yourself or with the help of a friend, you'll find tips and techniques to provide relief, support recovery, and prevent further strain. Why KT Tape for Calf Strains? Kinesiology tape can help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and stabilize your calf muscles without limiting mobility—making it perfect for athletes, runners, and active individuals recovering from injuries. Step-By-Step Instructions to Kinesio Taping a Calf: 1. Make sure the skin is clean with minimal hair. 2. Cut one 12 inch (30 cm) strip and one 14 inch (35 cm) strip of tape. 3. Round the corners of the tape to better durability. 4. Have the patient stretch their calf (point heel and straighten knee). 5. Apply the 12 inch (30 cm) strip at 25-30% tension starting at the mid Achilles tendon and extending along the outer calf to the knee with 0% tension on each end. 6. Apply the 14 inch (35 cm) strip at 25-30% tension starting 2 inches past the first strip on the Achilles tendon with zero tension on the anchoring ends. The 14 inch strip should travel up the Achilles tendon and toward the inside of the calf, ending at the knee with another anchor. Note: The beginning 2 inches and ending 2 inches are your anchors and should always be applied with 0% tension for each strip of kinesio tape. 7. Rub the tape to activate the adhesive.
