PART 2 Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā š·Ā PARTĀ 2Ā -Ā IĀ TarocchiĀ DelĀ Mantegna,Ā cĀ 1450...Ā Ā *The authorship of Mantegna is disputed, but proposed here. This is the "E Series" variety (not the S). The categorization of this deck as "tarocchi" is also disputed.* If you are interested in art history, classical studies, iconography, symbology, Greek mythology, and the history of playing cards, this is likely for you. If not. This might, or might not :) At least, the book is not likely to be :) The handbook approach is one of art historical analysis. The whole package is beautifully done. I do wish the card stock is thicker, and the book cover quality better :) My own impression is that this is the first production from Il Meneghello where Christina Dorsini is at the helm completely in her own right, without Osvaldo Menegazzi, her father, by her side. Pardon in advance for any mispronunciations :) NOTE 1 Piero della Francesca https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piero_d... School of Ferrara https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_... Mantegna Tarrochi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantegn... NOTE 2 What I forgot to mention here when talking of these 50 cards as similar to "50 majors", is that there is actually a theory which suggests that the 22 majors in the deck of 78 cards that we understand today as "tarot", was initially created as its own deck. That the 56 minors was originally created as an entirely different game. A separate deck. The theory further suggests that the two merged somewhere along the way. I will look for when I saw this and get back to you. NOTE 3 The progression from 1 to 50 appears to have started with an existence entirely focused on the most basic and physical needs, akin to that of an infant, moved along an increasingly more internal maturation, and ended with The Prime Cause, the source and cause of all things.
