Surah Al-Baqarah (Arabic: سورة البقرة, translit. sūrah al-baqarah, har. 'Cow') is the 2nd surah in the Al-Qur'an, and is the longest surah. This surah consists of 286 verses, 6,221 words, and 25,500 letters and belongs to the Madaniyah surah. This surah begins with the letters muqaṭṭa'āt A-L-M, which should be read one by one (alif, lām, mīm). This surah is also called Fustatul Qur'an (Peak of the Qur'an) because it contains some laws that are not mentioned in other surahs. For example, the obligation for Muslims to fast in the month of Ramadan prohibits usury; and the famous verse, Ayat Kursi, Surah al-Baqarah 256, and the last three verses. This verse has many variations of topics such as laws, as well as the story of Prophet Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Mūsa (Moses).
