Fitting a Cobra Sport Road type Exhaust to my NC MX5

Hello fellow MX-5ers! Today we are finally getting rid of the crusty, corroded stock exhaust on the Mazda and replacing it with something a bit more special. We’re installing a Cobra Sport Road Version back box featuring some stunning carbon fiber tips. In this video, I walk you through the (sometimes painful) process of removing rusted bolts, the "traditional" first start without a back box, and the final sound test of the new setup. Is it worth the £650? Let's find out! 🕒 Timestamps: 0:01 - Intro & Unboxing the Cobra Sport Exhaust 0:55 - Road vs. Race version: Why I chose the quieter option 1:28 - Assessing the damage: Rust and old repairs 2:40 - The struggle begins: Dealing with rounded, corroded nuts 4:03 - Plan B: Grinders, hacksaws, and rain delays 5:30 - Bringing out the "Big Guns" (Brushless impact saves the day!) 6:02 - Mandatory Sound Check: No back box startup! 🔊 7:26 - Removing the old unit and cleaning the mating surfaces 9:45 - Installing the Cobra Sport center section and hangers 12:42 - Torquing it down (40Nm) and checking the seal 14:23 - The Reveal: Carbon fiber tips look incredible! ✨ 15:48 - First Start & Sound Test: Idle and revs 18:22 - Driving impressions and why I’m a car enthusiast 19:43 - Future mods: Manifolds and extra horsepower 21:26 - Final thoughts and wrap up 🛠️ Parts & Tools Used: Exhaust: Cobra Sport NC Mazda MX-5 Road Rear Section Tips: Carbon Fiber upgrades Tools: Angle grinder, brushless impact gun, Scotchbrite, and plenty of patience. 💡 Why the Road Version? I went with the "Road" version because I plan on adding a manifold later. A manifold swap can unlock an extra 20-30 hp, taking this NC from 160 hp up to nearly 190 hp! Keeping the back box slightly quieter now ensures the car doesn't become "drone-heavy" or obnoxiously loud once the manifold is installed.
