Its super easy to do as long as you follow some simple rules. 1. Backup most important data on your NAS using Hybrid backup 2. Check S.M.A.R.T test results on drives to make sure it don't find any faults on the drives, if it does, replace them. 3. Try not to over work the NAS while its expanding the storage pool and rebuilding the RAID Array. 4. I am using SHR Hybrid RAID which means I don't have to fill all my drive bays at the same time and gives me the option of adding additional drives later on.
