Onvergetelijke Koningsdag! Ik liep mee met de Oranjes en filmde wat u niet op tv zag!

After two years, the time has finally come: King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and their daughters are going to Maastricht to celebrate King's Day. They were already scheduled to go in 2020, but that was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The family stayed at Huis ten Bosch Palace, where the so-called "Woningsdag" (Housing Day) was celebrated digitally. Last year, King's Day passed Maastricht by again, and the king and his family traveled to Eindhoven to celebrate his birthday. The Limburg city itself had decided to cancel that event. Due to the coronavirus, a normal celebration was still not possible. "The program we had devised for King's Day does not fit within the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus," a spokesperson for the municipality of Maastricht said at the time. "We continue to look forward to the king's arrival on King's Day, as soon as it can be celebrated regularly and without restrictions." Musical Procession This time, that will be possible. Mayor Annemarie Penn-te Strake of Maastricht promised earlier that it would be an "extra special day." The group will begin the day at the Sint Servaas Bridge, arriving at 11:00 AM by royal bus. They will then walk about a kilometer via the Vissersmaas and Het Bat rivers, the Graanmarkt, Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, and Bredestraat to the Vrijthof, the end of the route. There will be plenty of music along the way. André Rieu, Rowwen Hèze, and the DJ duo Lucas & Steve will perform, the Mastreechter Staar choir will sing the Wilhelmus (Dutch national anthem), and three hundred members of various brass bands will form a musical procession. Willem-Alexander and Máxima will also receive a lesson in Maastricht dialect from actor Jon van Eerd. The theme of this King's Day, just as it was intended two years ago, is "Live Maastricht!" This is Willem-Alexander's ninth King's Day. It has been celebrated annually on April 27 since 2014, almost a year after its inauguration.
