The Mystery of the disappearing Microbrand.
This watch could so easily not exist! Looking like a lost relic from the 50s and 60s, with faded colour bezels and gilt painted indices, Imperial Watch Co created a stunning lost aesthetic that sold out instantly and then disappeared. Why? With only small batch production (25 per colourway) maybe it was simply uneconomcal to continue, the brand owner having realised his dream. I took this beautiful gmt to the island of Malta to mull further. 00:00 The Disappearing Microbrand 04:10 Creativity of Imperial's Oceanguard GMT 06:47 Marketing Genius or Microbrand Tragedy #horology #microbrandwatches #gmt #watch #nh34 #rarestwatches
