Indonesia's presence was represented by the Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Rolliansyah Soemirat, who attended the memorial service in Tehran. Ahead of the funeral service, Iran had previously accused the US of exerting diplomatic pressure. The US allegedly pressured several countries not to send delegations to Tehran. However, Indonesia confirmed the attendance of Iranian Ambassador Rolliansyah Soemirat. Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that since the invitation from Iran was extended, the government had decided to send an ambassador. "So, we received notification or an invitation regarding the event, and at that time we also stated that the Indonesian ambassador in Iran would represent the Indonesian government," said the Foreign Minister at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Monday (July 6, 2026). This decision was made based on various technical considerations. One of them is the numerous visits by other world leaders to Indonesia. "Because at that time, we were also preparing for state visits to Indonesia, and some key officials were also unable to attend," he said. The series of farewell ceremonies and final tributes for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei officially began in Tehran on Saturday (July 4, 2026). The Indonesian government only received confirmation on Thursday (July 2, 2026) that only officials above the ambassador level could attend the event. Therefore, Sugiono emphasized that it was not possible to send a replacement. The series of funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in Tehran as a result of a joint US-Israeli attack on Friday (February 28, 2026), were held from July 3-9, 2026, in various cities across Iran.
