This film tells the story of Jules Verne: the son of a provincial lawyer from Nantes who, against his father's wishes, chose writing over law. His life was marked by one unresolved tension. He dreamed of the acclaim of Victor Hugo, yet he was labeled a young adult author. Emile Zola called him a speculator trading in curiosities, the French Academy repeatedly closed its doors to him, and his publisher forced him to change characters for commercial reasons. The harder he worked, the further he drifted from the goal he had set for himself since his youth.
