In Tenochtitlán, everyone has a task to fulfill, from children to adults. Life expectancy was forty-five years, and these elders were the most experienced, the ones who taught the children's parents and the children. Only they were allowed to become intoxicated with the drink of the gods. The city of Tenochtitlán provided first-class medical services, practices not yet practiced in Europe. Health was conceived as something spiritual and religious; illnesses were either sent by the gods or caused by birth. They had a vast knowledge of medicinal plants.
