He started playing the saxophone at a young age and quickly gained fame as a musician in the early 1950s. He is known for his creative and explosive playing style, which is heavily influenced by Caribbean rhythms, and has released over sixty albums as a leader. His most famous recordings include "Valse Hot", "St. Thomas", and "Blue 7". Rollins left the jazz scene in 1961 to focus on his own music, but returned in the late 1960s to gain even more acclaim.
