Accessibility: The temple is accessed by the 3 km of easy and enchanting trek from a beautiful Himalayan village named Kanakchuri. Kanakchuri is the last road head for Sri Kartikswami Temple and is located at distance of 20km from Rudraprayag town. Share taxis and Buses are available from Rishkesh or Haridwar to Rudraprayag. From Rudraprayag very limited bus service is availbe to KAnachuri. So convinietnt mode of travel is through hired cars available at around 2500 INR from Rudraprayag. From Kanakchuri the trail traverses through Agastmuni Wildlife Sanctuary. Story of Hindu Mythology: The only Temple of Lord Kartike in Norther india. Lord KAartik was the elder son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to the Hindu Mythology, Lord Kartik and Lord Ganesha were asked by Lord Shiva to take seven rounds. ord Kartkey started his journey to circle the universe and Lord Ganesha circled Lord Shiva telling his father is his Universe. Lord Shiva got impressed and gave Lord Ganesha the blessing to get worshipped first. Lord Kartikey when learnt this got angry and sacrificed his bones and flesh here at Cornch Parvat as reverence to Lord Shiva. There is no defined idol of the Lord here but deformed stones as remains of Lord Kartikey. In a good sunny day all the himalayan ranchages of Chowkhamba, Bandarpuch, Mandani, Kedardome, Gangotri and Yamnotri peaks can be seen from here. Place to stay: Many Homestays and small hotels are available at Kanakchuri. We stayed at Kedar Homestay located at a prominent location near the entry gate of the temple trail. Only temple committee guest house is available to stay near the Temple. Prebooking is recommended due to limited rooms. We contacted Jagdeesh Singh Ji for booking of the guesthouse.
