Alaska's 1,578 ft Megatsunami: Raw video of aftermath 2025

For an edited version with more detail check out:    • What’s it like seeing the Alaska Megatsuna...   This raw video brings together aerial footage 3 days and 20 days after the event, along with the first ground survey of the aftermath of the Tracy Arm megatsunami in Southeast Alaska. On August 10, 2025, a massive landslide near South Sawyer Glacier collapsed into Tracy Arm, generating one of the tallest tsunamis ever recorded. The wave stripped trees and vegetation from the fjord walls, leaving behind a scar that is almost impossible to understand from the ground alone. USGS reported the landslide-generated tsunami occurred in Tracy Arm, about 80 miles south-southeast of Juneau, with seismic signals detected around 5:30 a.m. local time. There are a few clips mixed in from the USGS aerial survey taken 3 days after (they are highlighted with text). The footage shows the scale of the landslide, the tsunami run-up zone, and the stripped landscape left behind inside the fjord. Researchers have since estimated the wave reached roughly 1,578 feet, making it the second-highest tsunami ever recorded. NASA satellite imagery also documented how the tsunami stripped vegetation along the shores of Tracy Arm after the August 10 event. This is a rare look at the aftermath of a landslide-generated megatsunami in one of Alaska’s most remote and dramatic fjords. Footage assembled by What’s It Like? TV.
