RITUAL WITHOUT RELIGION: A Humanist Guide to Creating Secular Ceremonies with Megan Sheldon
In this special Summer Solstice webinar, we welcome humanist celebrant and author Megan Sheldon for a conversation inspired by her book, Ritual Without Religion: A Humanist Guide to Creating Secular Ceremonies. For many people, rituals and ceremonies provide opportunities to mark life's transitions, strengthen community bonds, and reflect on what matters most. But what do these practices look like outside a religious framework? Drawing on the themes of her book, Megan explores how nonreligious people can create meaningful rituals that celebrate milestones, honour loss, foster connection, and express deeply held values without relying on supernatural beliefs or appropriating traditions from other cultures. Recorded in celebration of the Summer Solstice and World Humanist Day, this discussion invites us to reflect on the role of ritual in human life and how we can create moments of meaning, belonging, and purpose within a humanist worldview. About the Speaker: Megan is a cultural mythologist, humanist celebrant, end-of-life doula, and co-founder of Be Ceremonial — the world's first guided ritual and ceremony platform. With hundreds of ceremonies crafted for life's major passages and the "seemingly invisible moments of change," Megan has dedicated her work to reclaiming our human birthright of creating universal ritual that is accessible and meaningful. About Humanist Canada: Humanist Canada is a national charitable organization that promotes reason, compassion, secularism, and human rights.
