On a track where engine power and aerodynamic efficiency are not decisive, the new cars were still slower than last year's. Antonelli and Max Verstappen took the front row of the grid, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc second, and Isaac Hajjar and George Russell third. When the traffic lights went out, the unthinkable happened. Max Verstappen was unable to get going, letting the entire field pass. Problems with his Formula 1 power unit instantly turned his race into a disaster, and later forced him to retire. Kimi Antonelli maintained the lead, while Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc took advantage of the chaos to move up to second and third. The first part of the race turned into a classic Monegasque procession. The leaders conserved their tires and engines, avoiding risks on the narrow streets of the principality. The main battle unfolded in the middle of the field, where Russell actively pressured Hajjar. Isaac complained of car problems for several laps, but he fended off the Briton's attacks each time, even when he cut the chicane, refusing to let his rival pass. The pit stop strategy made some changes. On lap 29, Hamilton pitted, rejoining third, but was immediately given a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Russell, who changed tires later, moved ahead of Hadjar thanks to a quicker pit stop, but also exceeded the speed limit and received a similar penalty. Antonelli, after stopping on lap 38, maintained his lead and gradually began to pull away. The real chaos erupted at the end of the race. On lap 60, Lance Stroll crashed his car on the final corner while attempting to avoid a small hole in the asphalt surrounded by crumbling asphalt. The safety car was deployed, and the drivers rushed to the pits. Russell didn't have time to serve his five-second penalty before the start of service and received a drive-through penalty. At the Formula 1 restart, Charles Leclerc entered the same dirty section of the track and also crashed into the barrier. The safety car was deployed again.
