NEW Amtrak Cascades Siemens Airo Trainset!
On July 21st and 22nd 2025, Amtrak made a special move to start the process of rolling out their first of 83 Siemens Airo trainsets. This trainset is to be put in service on the Amtrak Cascades route between Vancouver, BC and Eugene, OR. This set is headed out to Pueblo, CO to be tested on the designated high speed testing track. After that, the set will head out to the Northeast Corridor to be tested out there, too. A lot of people ask what the difference is between the normal ALC-42 and this ALC-42E on the Airo set. The only main difference is how the ALC-42E is able to be used as a diesel locomotive and also as an electric locomotive using a pantograph. There were also three business/executive cars in the front of the train that held many executives from Amtrak and Siemens. I chased this train from Sacramento, CA to Reno, NV. Enjoy!
