Aren Eren was a young child caught in the middle of a custody battle between Turkey and Greece. After living with his father and grandmother in Edirne, he was handed over to his mother through a court process and taken to Greece. After some time, all contact with his father's side of the family was severed. He died on December 17, 2025, when he was taken to the hospital. According to the forensic medical assessment, Aren had lost weight to approximately 9 kilograms due to prolonged severe malnutrition and died from multiple organ failure. The case continues to be investigated, along with the mother's arrest, the fate of his twin siblings, and the negligence in the cross-border child protection process.
