El Higuerón is located near Nueva Carteya, at the top of the hill of the same name. It was excavated in 1966 by a team led by Javier Fortea and is currently being excavated by another team led by Andrés Roldán. The structure of the enclosure consists of a 20 by 17 meter square at the top of the hill and a series of walled sections with bastions surrounding it a few meters below.
