Four-Part Harmony from a Bass Line - Music Composition

Many people are happy harmonising a melodic line but often are less happy harmonising starting with a bass line. This music composition lesson begins with a bass line and considers the best way to select chords to fit it. He then demonstrates how to write a melodic top line that fits with the harmony, that acts well alongside the bass line, and also works well as a melody. We consider the shape and direction of the melody along with the balance between conjunct and disjunct movement and the rhythmic character that can be achieved. Finally the middle parts are completed in a way that achieves as much stability as possible. ⬇️Download the files https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YBZL... 🔴 Subscribe for more videos just like this:    / @musicmattersgb   🎵 Become a Music Matters Maestro:    / @musicmattersgb   👕 Merch store:    / @musicmattersgb   🕘 Timestamps 0:00 - Introduction to four-part harmony from a bass line 1:31 - Explaining the exercise 1:53 - Choosing the chords that work best 11:23 - Designing a good melodic line 17:34 - Filling in the alto and tenor lines 23:17 - Getting a strong melodic line 24:28 - Playing the finished piece 24:38 - Conclusion 🎓 Learn Music Online with Music Matters Learn music theory, aural tests, composition, sight reading, orchestration and more!
