Meiosis I is the stage of separation of homologous chromosomes (reduction division), from a diploid parent to produce haploid daughter cells. Meiosis II is the stage of separation of sister chromatids, similar to mitosis. The result of meiosis is four daughter cells that are not identical to the parent.
