Original Otis Hoistway Doors & ThyssenKrupp Traction Elevators at Hotel Gibbs in San Antonio, TX.

Video Recorded on June 24, 2024: This is an interesting setup of the elevator hallway lobby with the main current elevators are literally right behind the original old Otis black button elevator hoistway doors. Anyways, this was originally the old historic Gibbs Building from 1909 before it was converted into a hotel in 2006 by the Hotel Indigo, totally renovating the property leaving of the historical charm. Before all this happened, the original elevators were Otis black button as you can see the display. To tell you from the start, they originally had manual elevators based on seeing the bakelite black button call stations, the former elevators were definitely modernized in the 1940’s before they were completely ripped out during the conversion process. I remember Andrew (‪@DieselDucy‬) originally thought he had found an old vintage Otis black button elevator when he came here for the very first time before, only to find out they are a display and not actual elevators as the actual ones are right behind the fake elevator doors leading into the main elevator hallway entrance lobby, much to his disappointment…lol. I would’ve definitely been the same way as well. Anyways, not only are the current elevators less exciting, but they also don’t even hold up well which is quite appalling for the hotel. Some of the Aurora buttons were replaced, and the left elevator car has a crooked floor position indicator as well as the directional lanterns busted up with one of the lantern caps missing. What kind of an excuse it is to replace a perfectly good working old vintage elevator over 70-100 years old with something that is already breaking apart shortly after? They could’ve just done a tasteful modernization instead of entirely ripping it out and replacing. In other words, I wish they could’ve just done that instead. You can see these new and current elevators are not holding up well, being in a major boutique hotel like this with generally reliable service. Installed in 2006.
