Araçatuba x Monte Crista de Cargueira com Peterson & Jeisiel | Histórias de Refúgio EP. 22

There are journeys that go far beyond the distance traveled. Traverses occupy a unique place in mountaineering because they transform each step into a decision, each obstacle into learning, and each horizon into a new possibility. In this edition of Stories of Refuge, Peterson Garcia and Jeisiel Santos share the behind-the-scenes story of their traverse between Pico Araçatuba and Monte Crista, an approximately 64-kilometer expedition undertaken in a cargo-carrying style, connecting peaks, deep valleys, and some of the most striking landscapes of the Serra do Mar mountain range. More than just a traverse, this was an immersive experience in an environment where planning, autonomy, navigation, and resilience go hand in hand. Between changes in terrain, logistical challenges, and the constant surprises the mountains hold, stories emerge that could hardly be experienced anywhere else. Throughout the presentation, the differences between linear trails, circuits, and traverses will be explored, as well as fundamental aspects such as route planning, navigation strategies, supply management, and adaptation to the uncertainties inherent in life in remote environments. A gathering about exploration, self-discovery, and the essence of great journeys: moving forward even when the path ceases to be just a trail and transforms into a story to tell.
