Donna Adelson, a 75-year-old grandmother from South Florida, was convicted on September 4th, 2025, of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation in the 2014 murder-for-hire killing of her former son-in-law, Florida State University law professor Dan Markel. Markel, 41, was shot in the head in his Tallahassee garage on July 18th, 2014, amid a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson (Donna's daughter). Less than two weeks after the conviction, on September 15, 2025, Donna's defense attorneys, Joshua Zelman and Jackie Fulford, filed a motion for a new trial, a renewed motion for judgment of acquittal, and a request for leave to interview two jurors.
