Colin Wiggins began his career at the British Museum before moving to the National Gallery, where he worked for over 30 years as Head of Education and Special Projects Curator. During his time there he was responsible for the Associate Artist scheme, inviting contemporary artists such as Peter Blake, Michael Landy and Ana Maria Pacheco to become involved in the life of the Gallery and to exhibit their work there. In 2009 he worked on the exhibition Picasso: Challenging the Past at the National Gallery. During his time at the National Gallery he also curated exhibitions of work by artists such as Frank Auerbach, Bridget Riley, Lucian Freud and Sean Scully. He has many publications to his name and has lectured widely in Europe and the USA and is currently working on a catalogue raisonné of the paintings of Lucian Freud. He also works as a printmaker and has work in several public collections including the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and the British Museum.
