Treating children as people, not adults | Beth Hill | TEDxFrancis Holland School Regents Park

Drawing from both personal experience and extensive research, I aim to bring attention to the issues of adultification and parentification – whereby children may be praised for being “mature” but are in fact being overburdened with responsibilities beyond their years. From classrooms to family dynamics, these children are often expected to show adult-levels of emotional control while also being expected to act with the blind obedience of a child. This is a call for balance; we ought to raise children with boundaries and guidance - to learn accountability - but also with care, empathy, agency, and patience.
