FKA twigs & The Fragile Bombast of "Cellophane" | New British Canon

The 2010s was a weird decade for music. Any artist that has come up in the last ten years has done so in a fragmented social media dominated world. But this has fostered a generation of British acts unafraid to be pop in the broadest sense, but also intensely awkward and original in their own special way. Charli XCX, alt-J, Jamie XX and The 1975. But especially FKA twigs. She is one of the most interesting artists that’s come out of Britain in the last decade. Wowing critics and those in the know with her early EPs and first album, LP1 in 2014 with massive tracks like "Two Weeks", "Video Girl" and "Pendulum". Her sound was her own unique brand of half time trap beats, Kate Bush-style eccentric soprano atop a mesh of found-sound sampling and industrial-style electronica compared to Kate Bush, Prince and Massive Attack. Plus her jawdropping live show made it so eyes and ears were turned in her direction before she disappearing musically for the rest of the decade. Only to reappear in 2019 with her finest statement yet, the fragile bombast of her comeback featuring "Sad Day" and "Mary Magdalene". This is New British Canon and this is the story of FKA twigs’ “Cellophane”. #fkatwigs #grammys2020 #musicdocumentary Soundtrack: Luar - Clouds (  / luarbeats  ) Luar - Oblivion (  / luarbeats  ) Patricia Taxxon - Bellstep (https://patriciataxxon.bandcamp.com) Luar - Sidelined (  / luarbeats  ) Luar - Beyond (  / luarbeats  ) Luar - Anchor (  / luarbeats  ) Chapters 00:00 Introduction 01:38 Origins 06:16 The In-between 07:55 Cellophane 11:38 The Video 12:54 Magdalene You can also follow me here: Twitter:   / trashtheory   Facebook:   / trashtheoryyt   Or support me on Patreon:   / trashtheory
