Klasyki zniknęły z mazowieckich szlaków - pożegnanie EN57 z KM

When I started recording railway films in January 2022, EN57 units were already a rare sight on Mazovian rails. At the time, there were about 10 of them running, of which 8 were used on commuter routes around Warsaw. They were often sent on the R8 line to Góra Kalwaria, and thus, by the end of the summer, I managed to "accidentally" catch them several times near my house. In the meantime, however, KM was receiving more and more Stadler Flirts, and each new unit delivered inevitably meant the end of another classic “toilet” (EN57). In the fall of 2022, only two pairs of unmodernized EN57s were running on the Warsaw junction, i.e. 935 and 1920, as well as 1807 and 1927. On November 21, I had the pleasure of riding on board 1807 for the final time, as it was taken out of service just a few days later. With the new 2023 timetable, the R8 line to Góra Kalwaria was taken over by the brand new ER160 units, meanwhile 935, 1927, and two months later 1920, were moved to Tłuszcz, where they joined "Grandma" (EN57-038) in serving the line to Ostrołęka. There, on the R61 Tłuszcz – Ostrołęka route, they all met their fate one by one. The first to drop out was 1927, then in September we said goodbye to 935, and for the rest of 2023 as well as 2024, only 038 and 1920 remained. Finally, on December 14, EN57-1920 took the journey to Ostrołęka for the last time. On the way back, it’s doors got stuck, which caused the train to be delayed, and after returning to the depot in Tłuszcz, it was placed in long term storage, together with 038, from which they will never come out... “Grandma” will most likely be handed over to a museum, but 1920 probably won’t be so lucky, and sooner or later will be sold for scrap metal.
