▶ In June 1957, a launching ceremony for Korea's first deep-sea fishing vessel, the Jinam, was held at Busan Port Pier 1. This vessel, a U.S. test vessel, entered Busan Port after completing its pilot operations and was named by President Syngman Rhee, meaning "Go south and pioneer the seas." The Jinam's success marked a turning point in Korea's deep-sea fishing industry, and Busan Port later became the nation's largest forward base for the fishing industry. Even amidst the devastation of war, many young people ventured out to the open seas and risked their lives to fish, laying the foundation for national reconstruction and industrial development.
