Parallels and character foils are important aspects of good storytelling. They enhance the viewer's understanding of the world by directly comparing similar yet distinctly different traits and situations. This adds value and substance to each character's choices at any given moment in the story. While Arcane has many character foils, an obvious yet hotly debated pair of parallels can be found in Mel and Viktor - primarily through the perspective of Jayce - through which we come to understand magic, responsibility, loyalty, and love.
