Texas Has a JUNGLE and Nobody Told Me: Palmetto State Park

Palmetto State Park sits on 270 acres in Gonzales County, Texas — and it doesn't look like Texas at all. Dwarf palmettos, swamp trails, and a jungle-like landscape make this one of the strangest state parks in Central Texas. In this video I hike the Ottine Swamp Trail, Mesquite Flats Trail, San Marcos River Trail, and the Palmetto Interpretive Trail, plus check out the CCC-built Refectory, the 1930s water tower, and the park's extinct mud boils. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Intro 1:10 Welcome to Palmetto State Park 1:28 Scenic overlook (don't skip this) 2:03 Visitor center 2:11 CCC Refectory 2:40 Park overview (river, lake, trails, camping) 4:22 Ottine Swamp Trail 5:45 Why dwarf palmettos grow here 7:14 The 1930s water tower 8:03 Palmetto Interpretive Trail 8:35 Mesquite Flats Trail 9:08 San Marcos River Trail & the extinct mud boils 9:57 Final thoughts 📍 Palmetto State Park, Gonzales County, TX Subscribe for weekly Texas Adventures:    / @matt_out_here   #PalmettoStatePark #TexasStatePark #TexasHiking
