THESE FISH HAVE NO CHANCE OF SURVIVAL. LAKES ARE ENGULFED IN WEED AND LILLIES WORSE THAN EVER !

After a few messages recently from a friend who visits these lakes with her mum for a walk, it became clear that there’s an element of neglect. I’m not saying it’s lost its focus in a bad way or good way, but one thing is certain and it’s that this ex fishery has already fallen victim to a HUGE fish kill last year which saw hundreds of dead carp and bream floating on the surface. It was a mixture of a heavy oxygen crash, overwhelming amounts of algae/weed growth and very little water levels. These lakes were once some of the most iconic specimen fish waters in the area with large Roach, Tench, Bream and Carp being the targets. They have also produced large Pike and Perch too. A few years back now the National Trust took control of the lakes removing the rights from the angling club and now display them as a nature reserve. This means all those years of human influence no longer have that connection with wildlife and skin coated palms, meaning these waters become self sufficient with no choice but to fail. Lack of maintenance, zero input, nobody patrolling daily to report issues…. Recipe for disaster! So when I saw some recent videos of the place I had to draw that focus back to the venue in the hope something can be done much quicker this time should the fish fall into the danger zone. Hopefully we won’t have a repeat of last year, but if we do then maybe this time we can do our best to save as many from dying.
