Virgilio Acuña no reconoce el triunfo de Keiko Fujimori y espera decisión de la CIDH
Virgilio Acuña, leader of Perú Federal, opened a new front in the political debate after distancing himself from a message attributed to his party that congratulated Keiko Fujimori as president-elect and expressed respect for the democratic will. “The tweet you read is mine. That's a fabrication by the Perú Federal press team, not mine,” he stated. Although the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) completed the vote count from the second round and gave Keiko Fujimori a narrow lead over Roberto Sánchez, Virgilio Acuña affirmed that, from a legal standpoint, he does not yet recognize the victory of the Fuerza Popular leader. According to the official count reported by Reuters, Fujimori obtained 50.135% of the votes compared to Sánchez's 49.865%, in an election decided by fewer than 50,000 votes. In an interview with Martín del Pomar on “Esta Noche,” the leader maintained that there are two distinct levels of the issue: the administrative result reported by the electoral bodies and the legal discussion regarding alleged irregularities. “From a legal standpoint, from a legal standpoint, for us, as Virgilio Acuña and as Perú Federal, we do not recognize Keiko Fujimori’s victory,” he stated, questioning the changes to the electoral process before the second round. According to Acuña, modifications were issued on May 29 that, in his opinion, altered the course of the June 7 vote. PROPOSES CHANGES TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE SYSTEM At another point, Acuña took the opportunity to defend his proposal to change the country’s political and administrative system. “Our proposal is to change a system that is not working,” he stated, criticizing the functioning of the electoral branch, the judiciary, and the centralist model. He also proposed a major tax reform so that each region can benefit from its wealth and address its own needs. The leader of Perú Federal cited the example of mayors who must travel to Lima to demand funding for low-budget projects and maintained that the country needs to discuss more seriously a model that grants greater autonomy to the regions. Despite this, he maintained his position on the election results: “I will recognize the results when the elections are over, when the Inter-American Court of Human Rights rules in our favor,” he said. #VirgilioAcuña #PeruFederal #KeikoFujimori #Elections2026 #ONPE #JNE #SecondRound #RobertoSánchez #PeruvianPolitics #ElectionResults
